Keeping Your Phone Number: It’s Easier Than You Think!
Hey there! So, you’re thinking about switching phone providers, huh? Maybe you’re tired of your current plan, or you’re just looking for a better deal. Whatever the reason is, you’re probably most worried about losing your phone number.
Don’t stress! You can keep your number, no matter how many times you switch providers, or even if you go from a contract to a pay-as-you-go plan. It’s actually really easy!
Here’s the secret: PAC codes (aka Porting Authorisation Codes). They’re like keys that let you unlock your number and take it with you wherever you go.
Here’s how it works:
- Get your PAC code: You can get it by calling your current provider and asking for it, or by texting “PAC” (without the quotes) to 65075. You’ll get a code texted back to you.
- Switch to your new provider: Get a new SIM card from your new provider and pop it into your phone.
- Give them your PAC code: Call your new provider and tell them you have a PAC code and that you want to port your number over.
And that’s it! They’ll take care of the rest, and you’ll be back with your number in no time.
Let’s imagine a scenario:
You’re with “Phone Company A” on a contract, but you’re ready for a pay-as-you-go plan with “Phone Company B“. Here’s what you do:
- Call Phone Company A: Tell them you need your PAC code. They’ll send you the code.
- Go to Phone Company B and get a new SIM card.
- Call Phone Company B: Tell them you have a PAC code and want to transfer your number.
Done!
You’re all set! You’ve got your number, you’ve got a new plan, and you’re ready to rock!
